Recently we took a break from our Porch Project and went up to Green Bay to stay with and visit some dear friends. It was recommended to us that we visit the Green Bay Botanical Gardens and we are so glad that we did!!
Guys, ... this place totally out does the botanical gardens in Milwaukee ... It Was AMAZING!!!
There is an exhibit at the gardens right now that is all about LEGOS. Throughout the gardens there are sculptures that are made up completely of LEGOS as part of Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks.
Again ... AMAZING!!!
I was stunned at the height of the lilies ... see how they tower over my 5' 3" height!
Seriously beautiful LEGO structures. It takes a whole lot of legos and a whole lot of hours to construct something like this ... we're talking major patience and determination, oh, and serious artistic ability.
I was extremely impressed and jealous even with their basil plants .... the leaves were HUGE!!
I picked one (Shhhh...) and we all enjoyed smelling it as we went on our way through the gardens.
I am going to have to step up my basil gardening to compare to this one.
The kids really enjoyed the gardens and it wasn't just because of the LEGO exhibit. They were ooing and ahhing about so many of the flowers and gardens.
The photo below was Molly's FAVORITE spot. She thought it was so beautiful.
The peacock was my FAVORITE LEGO construction ... I really like peacocks!
Every so often, throughout the gardens, there would be spots that were set up for taking "selfies", which we thought was rather humorous but the spots were really good for taking a picture ... we just didn't attempt the "selfie".
Look at this FANTASTIC LEGO bird feeder - there's even a squirrel!!
Crazy about this kid!!
Just look at those gems!
I thought the Dragon Fly was pretty wonderful too!
Molly detests spiders ... even the LEGO kind ... so I didn't tell her about the GIANT LEGO SPIDER behind her until AFTER I took her picture!
I love this spot. I dream of having willow trees in my yard one day (like I did when I was a child) and this looks like such a peaceful spot with the bench there.
We also had the opportunity to meet and make some new friends, especially special because they were born in China just like our dumplings.
Of course, the kids were all kind of quiet at first but by the end of the night they were flexing their muscles, ...
... arm-wrestling ...
(they really did like each other, trust me!)
... enjoying getting to know one another ...
... more arm-wrestling ...
... and playing cards!
They had a lot of fun together and we hope we see our new friends again sometime.
We also had some fun near and in the water.
Water is always a fun-maker!
I would love it if these dancing fountains were near where we live.
The kids just LOVE it!
Even the BIG kids!
So simple yet SO MUCH FUN!!!
On our way home from Green Bay, along the road that we travel on (I believe it was I-41 near Sheboygan), we drive past this enormous American flag. We saw it on our way up and thought it was quite something so on our way back, when we saw it again, we quickly and spontaneously exited the freeway so we could go take a look.
Look at how high up it is!!
It is apparently an "attraction", which we had no idea, and has purpose.
Apparently, it is the WORLD's TALLEST SYMBOL of FREEDOM!
And it is a dedication to the men and women who have fought to defend that FREEDOM.
There are more than 750 bricks with names on them all around the base of the flag pole. The names are of those men and women from Sheboygan County who paid the ultimate price while serving our country in the line of duty.
The flagpole is gigantic.
Just check out these facts about the flag:
It is a 70 x 140 foot flag, the world's largest free-flying American flag.
Each star is nearly 3 feet across and each stripe is over 5 feet high.
The 9800-square-foot flag, which weighs 340 pounds, is more than four times the size of the average US home.
It is the tallest flagpole in North America at nearly 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. It is 400 feet high and weight about 420,000 pounds.
This is a very SERIOUS FLAG!!
Go check it out!
Well, that's it for this post. The next one will probably be back to sharing our progress on the old, old porch project.
See you soon!
